Relatives of the deceased superstar Jenni Rivera just hit a wall after the judge for their lawsuit case over Jenni’s life series has rejected their request of information from the producers.
Even though the series is called “Her Real Name Was Dolores,” based on a book written by Jenni’s former manager Pete Salgado has caused a lot of problems for the producers of the show and for Salgado himself, this time is the family who has suffer an unexpected setback.
After months requesting information to the series producers, the Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Raphael stated that the validity of the contract between Jenni Rivera Enterprises (JRE) and Salgado is at the heart of the family’s suit against Salgado and the producers and not required by JRE lawyers.
In the meantime, attorneys for the producers have filed a motion to discharge the lawsuit on free-speech grounds, saying a series about Rivera’s life is a material of public importance.
Jenni Rivera Enterprises sued Salgado on September 12, claiming his book and participation in the series disrupts a non-disclosure contract.
Salgado’s lawyers have lent their support to the producers’ anti-SLAPP motion (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation), which is scheduled for hearing before Raphael on December 19.
