This week has been a roller coaster for The Weeknd fans. First off, he surprised fans with the cover art and name of his new studio album, Starboy. Then, he released his first single with Daft Punk. Everything appeared bright and luminous for his rabid fan-base until earlier today. Sadly, The Weeknd announced that he won’t able to headline at The Meadows Festival in New York next week. Fortunately, fans will be delighted to know his replacement will be there to take a bite of The Big Apple.
According to Billboard, J.Cole will be taking his talents to his old stomping grounds of Queens, New York to perform at Citi Field Oct. 1 and Oct. 2. According to a release by The Meadows’ Twitter., The Weekend backed out because of "unforeseen scheduling conflicts.”
Even though this does come as a bummer, fans should relish the thought of having J.Cole delivering mind shattering sets on both Saturday and Sunday. Despite being two years removed from his 2014 Forest Hills Drive album, J.Cole has embarked on many festival gigs including Billboard's Hot 100 Fest and Life Is Beautiful Festival. In terms of music, he has been relatively quiet. His sole effort for 2016 came in the form of “Jermaine’s Interlude,” which was on DJ Khaled’s Major Key album. Earlier this month, Cole was once again victorious because two of his singles “Crooked Smile” and “Can’t Get Enough” both went platinum.
In addition to J.Cole, Kanye West, Chance The Rapper, Kygo, Empire of the Sun and The 1975 will also serve as notable headliners for the Fall festival.
