A billboard on a California interstate features a teapot currently being sold by department store J.C. Penney and manufactured by Michael Graves Design. The "Bells and Whistles Stainless Steel Kettle" is silver in color with a black handle and copper-colored bell atop its spout.
However, placed onto the white background of a billboard on the Interstate 405 freeway in Culver City, Calif., commuters and a number of users on aggregation site "Reddit" believe it may be much more sinister. Some saw the likeness of German Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
J.C. Penney responded to assertions of the kettle being a Hitler teapot by tweeting that should the company had "designed it to look like something, we would have gone with a snowman or something fun," capped off with a colon-parenthesis smiley face.
