With Valencia reportedly resigning itself to the prospect of losing its star striker Robert Soldado to Tottenham Hotspur, the La Liga club has begun looking around for possible replacements. According to a report by the Daily Express, one of the names being floated is that of Javier "Chicharito" Hernández. The 25-year-old did not accompany his team Manchester United for their preseason tour, and since May, when several Italian news outlets began reporting on Juventus' interest in the striker, rumors have swirled regarding a possible transfer.

Valencia coach Miroslav Djukic said on Friday that Roberto Soldado may indeed leave for Tottenham, despite the fact that it would have to put up €30 million ($3.98 million) to meet the release clause in his contract. "The possibility that he will leave is real," Djukic told local sports daily Super Deporte. He added, "Valencia are working on various options in case Salgado does leave, but we have too (few) forwards, either with Soldado or especially without him...We have to remember though that Valencia the club is greater than any player."

Super Deporte writes that Manchester United's Hernández would be one of two new attackers which Valencia will try to bring on board in order to replicate Soldado's scoring power. The La Liga club has previously tried to sign Chicharito - as a replacement for David Villa when Villa made tracks for Barcelona in 2010 - but the club balked amid concerns that the Mexican star would be able to make the transition from the Mexican league to Europe, and seeing their opportunity, Manchester United stepped in to make a decisive offer.

Meanwhile, Chicharito has continued his training in Guadalajara. At 25, he has proved himself as one of most successful Mexican players who've made the jump to the European leagues. In three seasons with the Red Devils, he has appeared in 117 games and scored 50 times. His agent has indicated that his client is happy at United. And if Sir Alex Ferguson's comments last March still represent the club's position, Manchester United won't be so eager to deal him.

"He's on a long contract and we won't be entertaining any interest from anyone," said Ferguson then. "As far as we are concerned he is a really important player. He does something different from the other strikers and any time he comes into a game he changes it."
