“Jane The Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez is taking over the animated scene, recently landing the role of Velma in an upcoming animated “Scooby Doo” movie.
Fans of the actress are excited about what the star can bring to the table for the highly anticipated film. With such an iconic character, “Scooby Doo” fans would be understandably protective of how Velma is portrayed in this new project. Add to that the fact that the film has been in development for more than five years.
They won't have to worry about a thing, though. Rodriguez is a voice-acting pro who can handle a mystery and intelligent dogs like Scooby Doo. With such a hefty voice-acting resume and love for dogs, she will feel right at home in the animated “Scooby Doo” movie.
Before booking her hit “Jane The Virgin” series, the actress lent her voice to a slew of films and TV shows. She was the voice of the titular character in the Netflix animated series “Carmen Sandiego.” Here she plays a Robin Hood style superthief. She can surely handle mysteries because on this show she creates the most epic ones with precision and posh.
Fans will recognize her as Gina Alvarez in “Big Mouth,” so when it comes to the weirdness and horror that the Scooby gang will inevitably get into, she’s got the experience. Rodriguez was also the voice behind the meditation-loving Yeti named Kolka in the 2018 animated film “Smallfoot.” The star was also part of the animated series “Animals” as the narrator. She even played Princess Marisa in “Elena Of Avalor.”
Clearly she's got the voice-acting part down. Now the question becomes: will she get along with a Great Dane like Scooby Doo? She's definitely had training in dealing with canine shenanigans. The Latina beauty has two dogs, which are often the subject of her Instagram posts.
From the looks of it, Rodriguez is well-primed to bring Velma to life in the untitled “Scooby Doo” film, which will hit the theaters sometime in 2020. The movie also stars “The Last Man On Earth” star Will Forte as Shaggy. Dax Shepard will be co-directing and co-writing.
