Although Jaime Camil (known for "Jane the Virgin" and "La Fea más Bella") is currently busy as the host of TV Azteca's hit reality show "La Academia 2024," he has taken some time to share his passion for travel by promoting top tourist destinations.
In an apparent nod to his role in the animated film "Coco," where he voiced Miguel's father, Camil has recently shared his recommendations for the best places in Mexico to experience Día de Muertos.
His suggestions are part of a new collaboration with the well-known travel platform, Expedia, where he highlights destinations that offer an authentic experience of this deeply rooted Mexican tradition.
Camil's recommended spots include culturally rich cities like Morelia, Puebla, Mexico City, Aguascalientes, and Guadalajara. According to him, these places not only allow visitors to immerse themselves in vibrant Día de Muertos celebrations but also offer perfect settings for relaxation, blending cultural heritage with moments of personal well-being.
This collaboration aligns with the launch of new features on the travel platform, designed to provide users with personalized recommendations from creators and public figures. Camil's involvement, in particular, aims to highlight key Mexican destinations that represent the essence of Día de Muertos. While this holiday has always been significant in Mexico, its global recognition has grown, thanks in part to films like "Coco," which introduced the tradition to international audiences.
El Día de Muertos, celebrated on November 1st and 2nd, is one of Mexico's most iconic holidays. Families honor their deceased loved ones by setting up colorful altars, creating offerings, and participating in festive events. The tradition has pre-Hispanic roots, and while it has evolved to incorporate modern elements, its core meaning remains unchanged. Altars are typically adorned with photographs, favorite foods of the departed, marigold flowers (cempasúchil), and candles to guide the souls back to the land of the living.
Camil has highlighted some of the best places to fully experience this celebration. One of his top recommendations is Morelia, which he describes as "the city where the celebration originated."
