Although not everybody can agree to consider an automobile as an art-piece, British automaker Jaguar makes a point to instill that philosophy into every vehicle it builds. Sponsoring the second annual Clerkenwell Design Week London community expo, Jaguar will showcase a one-off C-X16 concept car at Clerkenwell from May 22nd to May 24th.
Rather than to complete the prototype before transporting it to the expo, Jaguar selected to have its skilled clay modellers and designers to work on sculpting the concept vehicle on-site, providing insight of the painstaking craftsmanship involved in bringing a car to life.
Jaguar Advanced Design Director Julian Thomson said, "Jaguar is one of the most technologically advanced companies in the field of product development but we still believe in the sense of artistry. Emotional connections are at the heart of our vehicles and the traditional process of working with clay with some of the best sculptors in the world allows us to refine them into the purest surfaces."
To properly display Jaguar's design heritage, three additional sculptures will join the C-X16 clay model concept. Intended to evoke the past, present, and future of Jaguar, artwork inspired by the engine covers of the classic E-type, and C-X16 and C-X75 concept cars have been thoughtfully created by two designers from the Jaguar design team.
Finally, Jaguar will display its iconic 1966 XJ13 racing car alongside an XFR and XKR-S from Jaguar's current line-up.
Registration for the ongoing Clerkenwell Design Week expo is free and open for the public. Check out Jaguar's extensive exhibit at the Farmiloe Building exhibition space.
