Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner who were close to him during his time as the President, seem to be moving away from him.
About 12 former Trump White House officials, former administration officials, family friends, acquaintances and members of Trump's team spoke with CNN about the changes in Trump's current inner circle. They revealed that there is distance between Trump and his daughter and son-in-law now. The major reason for the gap is reportedly due to the former POTUS constantly harping on the past and his inability to move on. Trump has also started to question Kushner's role in his presidential legacy.
Two acquaintances said that Ivanka has found it difficult to do away with the entanglements caused by the time at her father's side in the White House. She is looking for a less complicated life for her family now. The acquaintances said that she is having to walk a fine line between embracing her father and staying away from his election lies.
Ivanka, Kushner and their three young children were rarely spotted with Trump in the months leading up to the former President's shift from living at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, to staying in a cottage in Bedminster, New Jersey. "They weren't around for the usual spring and summer events at Mar-a-Lago," said a family friend.
According to a source, Kushner's presence has become rare as it became clear that Trump remained preoccupied with the 2020 election. "He was kind of like a parent who sticks around less and less each morning while they're transitioning their kid to day care," said the source.
In March, some of Trump's trusted advisers suggested him to get a team member who could take charge of daily operations and help organize his candidate meetings, fundraising requests and endorsement vetting process.
"I don't think it's accurate to say he needed a new Jared, because Jared was always more of a policy guy inside the White House, but there was definitely a sense that some part of the puzzle was missing and it was contributing to a lot of internal confusion and chaos," said a former White House official. Kushner is not part of the former President's plans for a rally later this month. He is also not greatly involved with Trump's endorsement decisions or frequent public statements.
On the personal front, Kushner, Ivanka and family celebrated Father's Day on Sunday in the Lowcountry, reported ABC News 4. They headed to Mount Pleasant for a tour of the USS Yorktown, the USS Laffey and the Medal of Honor Museum.
