This might be the moment we've been all expecting. The new iPhone 5S might be right around the corner. It looks like not only are Verizon and T-Mobile "blacking out" from Sept. 18 to Sept. 22, meaning that employees cannot take vacation during the time, but a new leaked document shows that Apple has issued a vacation blackout period for Apple Care employees from September 15-28, and Apple is expected to hold its next media event Tuesday, September 10.
What does that mean? Well, the iPhone normally goes on sale two Fridays after the media event, and if Apple holds true to this tradition, that date would be September 20. Apple iPhone launches are usually a big production, so Apple and carrier stores require all hands on deck. Also, the dates are in line with last year's iPhone launch. The iPhone 5 was unveiled on Sept. 12 and it hit stores on Sept. 21 in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and the U.K. It launched in China in Dec. 2012.
Not only is Apple launching the new iPhone, but we'll also get a new operating system in iOS 7. Usually, Apple releases its next mobile OS the Wednesday after its media event, which would be September 18. The new platform has a cleaner and more colorful looks than its predecessor, with simpler icons and graphics, but it also packs in new features and functionality, such as a revamped Notification Center and quick-access Control Center. Built-in apps and functions such as Photos, Camera, Weather, Safari, multitasking and Siri also sport new designs that may initially confuse new users once they are prompted to update to iOS 7.
We have reasons to believe that Sept. 20 is "the day" since similar carrier blackout rumors last year turned out to be accurate. Verizon reportedly nixed their workers vacations between Sept. 21-30, 2012, though Verizon denied it. The year before, there was a similar rumor about AT&T ahead of the iPhone 4S launch. So to be safe, don't spend the money you had already saved up for the new tech toy that we've all been waiting for, it'll be here in less than a month. Isn't it exciting?
