iPhone 5S was officially introduced by Apple today at their media event held at their Cupertino campus. One of the biggest features on the new device was the Touch ID technology, a fingerprint sensor that is bult into the home button. The sensor will help unlock your iPhone and approve purchases on the iTunes Store with a touch of a finger. The Touch ID has a 360-degree readability which means that no matter how you are holding your phone, it will be able to read your fingerprint. This feature got us thinking about other Apple gadgets the technology could be applied to and here are our top 4:
1. iPad & iPod Touch
It is only natural that the iPad and iPod Touch receive the Touch ID treatment on the next update. Both the iPad, iPod and iPhone's share their home button and it would be extremely uncalled for on Apple's part if they don't apply the sensor to their next iteration of the tablet device and media player. Like the iPhone, the fingerprint sensor can help unlock the mobile devices and help with purchases on iTunes, App Store and iBooks Store.
2. Mac OS X
What if we take this into a greater scale and have it recognized different people in the family. The Touch ID technology can already store and ecrypt data various fingerprints. Let's say you step away from your computer and you have left it lock and another user on the same computer wants to use it, with the sensor they can just place their fingerprint and have the system take them to their desktop without any clicking or the input of a password.
3. MagicMouse & MagicTrackpad
The MacBook's already have a highly sophisticated track pad integrated into the laptops and the addition of the Touch ID will make it much easier to unlock the computer. There would not be a need to type in your password as your finger would do all the talking. This same technology can be integrated into the MagicMouse that is already touch-friendly for the input of Apple's desktop computers.
4. Apple Stores & Genius Bar
With the whole Apple ecosystem working with the Touch ID technology it would take the load off of hunting down an Apple Store employee or a Genius at the hectic brick and mortar shops. Maybe our fingerprint will have a credit card attached and ease of payment would make things smoother, but this might prove a little more complicated as our phalanges might be at risk of devious criminals, which would be another topic of discussion.
Where would you like the Touch ID fingerprint sensor to be applied to next?
