Rumor has it that iPhone 5S and 6 releases are imminent, with Apple primed to begin taking orders for the 5S June 20.
The 5S is speculated to be release by the fall as it goes into production this summer, with Apple releasing the iPhone 6 shortly thereafter in summer of 2014.
It is highly likely that the iPhone 6 will contain fingerprint technology as Apple recently acquired a new company, AuthenTec, for $356 million. This is perhaps why production for both the 5S and 6 has been so delayed, Inquisitr reported.
Michael Barrett, chief information security officer at PayPal, has reportedly "confirmed" these suspicions.
"It's widely rumored that a large technology provider in Cupertino, Calif., will come out with a phone later this year that has a fingerprint reader on it," he said. "There is going to be a fingerprint enabled phone on the market later this year. Not just one, multiple."
While a possibility for a fingerprint sensor is still up in the air for the 5S, users can expect a smaller phone with a faster camera and an improved, faster processor among other reinvented components, inrumor reported.
Apple is expected to upgrade to iOS 7, improve retina display and include NFC support. It is also expected to release low-cost versions of its phones.
Other rumors include a home button -- notorious for being the first part to get busted on the iPhone -- will be protected by a saffaire crystal to preserve its lifetime. Such a crystal is currently implemented in the iPhone 5 camera and may move on to being used for other purposes in future pgones.
There is speculation of three variants on the iPhone 6, including the iPhone 6 mini, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 XL.
Sharp is also preparing to manufacture retina display screens for the 5S next month, Reuters reported.
"In January, Sharp had to curtail production of 9.7-inch iPad screens, hurting output levels and threatening its recovery in profitability. The Japanese company is preparing to begin large-scale production next month of screens for Apple's next iPhone model," sources told reporters.
If this is true, the likelihood of a 5S by fall seems all the more believable. While there's not much in the way of confirmed news for the iPhone 6, it appears that Apple is in line to get to work straight away on its new model.
