Seven schools in six Dutch cities have opened as iPad only schools. Also known as "Steve Jobs Schools" these educational institutions are part of a Dutch program called "Education for a New Era." This program will highlight the iPad in an elementary school setting. The "Education for a New Era" program was first introduced in March 2012. The goal is to help younger students develop skills that will help them access and understand information processing and technology. The seven "Steve Jobs Schools" have opened up in the Dutch cities of Sneek, Breda, Almere, Emmen, Heenvliet and Amsterdam.

These seven schools are the first of 12 that are in preparation to be opened. The iPad only schools are for students age four to 12. Two of the Dutch schools the "Master Steve Jobs School" in Sneek and the "Steve Jobs School Breda" will have all grades working with the iPad. The other schools are looking to introduce the iPad to the lower grades first and then move up to the older children. Appadvice.com reports the "Steve Jobs Curriculum" is expected to reach out to Dutch speaking children across the globe.

In the "Education for a New Era" curriculum the iPad will replace all other forms of writing and reading as well as replace hand written and hand submitted assignments. Classrooms will also become a thing of the past in the "Steve Jobs Schools" when they are replaced with "subject rooms." Students will mostly be working in cyber space and will be using the "sCool Tool" app to virtually contact a teacher. The iPad will allow students to use Facebook and Skype as well as work together with their classmates on special projects.

The "Steve Jobs Schools" do not have fixed schedules or set vacation times. This will allow students and parents to take time off as they need. Parents will be able to monitor their child's progress by using the "iDesk" app. They will also be able to compare their child's progress against their classmates. All 12 iPad schools will be up and running by the end of this school year. The reach out to other Dutch speaking schools all over the world will begin next year.
