Apple has confirmed that it will host a media event next week. The company is expected to unveil its iPad Mini.

In an invitation sent to members of the press, Apple sad it will hold an event on Oct. 23 in San Jose, California.

"We've got a little more to show you," the e-mail read. "Please join us for an invitation-only event at the California Theatre in San Jose on October 23 at 10:00 a.m."

According to AllThingsD's John Paczkowski, details about the iPad Mini are "slim."

"Sources say the iPad's diminutive sibling will feature a 7.85-inch liquid-crystal display and a Lightning connector," Paczkowski said. "It will also probably be thinner. And that's about it."

The current iPad is 9.7 inches and the new iPad will be easier to users.

People can expect to pay up to $300 for the iPad Mini. The device will be released two weeks after the announcement and will have to compere compete with Amazon's Kindle Fire HD tablet and Google's Nexus 7, both of which have 7-inch screens and are priced at $199.

Apple's current iPad lineup starts at $399 for last year's iPad 2 and $499 for the third-generation iPad released in March.
