An Iowa woman helped officials capture a murder suspect on the run for years after she learned his identity and alerted his roommate, who kicked him out and called the cops, according to a report.

Eddy Mason met Kyle Coolack after seeing him with a "veteran needing work" sign last week, and offered to let him stay with him. Mason's sister Janey Voyek then met Coolak on Thursday, and they began dating on the next day, as reported by KCCI.

"Nobody ever seen him be this kind of person," Voyek told KCCI. "Or to ever expect that it would ever come out that he was a murderer."

Voyek said Coolack told everyone his name was James. However, she said he allegedly confessed his true identity during a drunken phone call Saturday night.

"He just kind of got mad and crazy and just bluntly told me that he had murdered his brother two years ago," Voyek told KCCI.

Following this revelation, Voyek said she hung up the phone and messaged her brother. On Sunday, Mason confronted Coolack about the text, who allegedly admitted that it was true before Mason kicked him out, as reported by KEYC.

Mason then contacted the sheriff's office, who picked him up off the side of the highway. Deputies said Coolack initially gave them a fake name before allegedly sharing his real identity, as reported by KPRC.

Coolack's brother, Brad Coolack, was found shot multiple times in his Houston apartment in March 2022. Kyle Coolack was identified as the suspect, and murder charges were filed against him in July 2022. A $5,000 reward had been offered for his arrest through the Houston Crime Stoppers.
