iOS 9
Apple releases iOS 9.1. Apple

Apple today released its second public beta download for iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan. This comes nearly two weeks after the first beta downloads became accessible to testers. The iOS 9 beta released today has a build number of 13A4305g and will offer the same content found in the fourth beta that was seeded to developers yesterday, Macrumors Reports.

Changes in this new beta include a new look for Handoff in the app switcher and a bug fix that once again allows the volume buttons on an iOS device to serve as a shutter for the camera. And even more testers will see the return of Home Sharing for music, which was removed in iOS 8.4. This is also the first beta to supports Apple's recently released iPod touch.

Other changes include updated notification icons, picture in picture podcast support and a new Apple Pay option that lets you turn off the feature that allows Apple Pay be accessed from the home screen with a double click. As far OS X El Capitan beta testers will see more of a focus on performance improvements and bug fixes with few outward changes to the operating system.

Users who have signed up for Apple's beta testing program and already have the first beta installed on their iOS device can update over-the-air. Check out the instructions below to do so:

  • Plug in your device to a power source.
  • Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
  • Tap Download and Install. Updates might download automatically while your device is connected to Wi-Fi and a power source.
  • Tap Install, or tap Later to install the update later. If you use a passcode, you'll need to enter it before installing the update.

Both iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan will release this fall for Apple devices.
