Apple has released iOS 7.0.2 update for the new OS. This update is a minor update that delivers several changes including a fix for a lock screen password vulnerability. The lock screen vulnerability allowed access to a device's photos, email and social networking accounts. Jose Rodriguez posted a video of the bug to Forbes showing it only takes a few simple set of gestures to give unwarranted access to a device running iOS 7. The new version comes as Build 11A501 for all devices.
Before this update it was very simple to access someone's apps. Macrumors shows how easy it is to access someones device with these easy steps: swiping up on someone's device from the locked home screen to gain access to the Control Panel, once the control panel is opened open the clock app. Once the clock app is open, holding the phone's sleep button will cause the "Slide to Power Off" option to appear. Tapping cancel at this junction and then double clicking the home button will open the phone's multitasking screen, which will then provide access to the camera and the photos on the device.
In turn, because the camera app can be shared via Flickr, Twitter, Facebook and email, any intruder also can gain access to those apps using the sharing tool.
The software update description reads:
- Fixes bugs that could allow someone to bypass the Lock screen passcode
- Reintroduces a Greek keyboard option for passcode entry
This new iOS comes just a week after the official iOS 7 was released Wednesday, Sept. 18. You may be wondering why this update is 7.0.2, well when iOS 7 released there was a special update for the iPhone 5c and 5s that was dubbed 7.0.1.
To download the new iOS and make your Apple device safe from intruders, follow these steps. Go to Settings > General > Software Update. The device will search for the update and you should be able to download and install. You will need to be connected to Wi-Fi for the update to be installed.
