After launching the voice activated assistant Siri two years ago for the iPhone 4S, Apple has finally taken the Beta label off of Siri. When Siri was first launched it was more for the wow factor than practical and continual use. The responses Siri would give to various questions would take a long time to load and when the answer was finally give, it was often wrong. Working hard to improve Siri over the last two years Apple has added new features to the voice controlled assistant such as sports statistics, various languages and the ability to use Twitter.
9to5mac.com was the first to point out that Apple changed its Siri webpages and dropped all references to Siri being in Beta. "Siri is available in Beta only on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad with Retina display, iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area. Cellular data charges may apply," read the Apple description last week. Now the description reads:
"Siri is available on iPhone 4s or later, iPad with Retina display, iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area. Cellular data charges may apply." Apple has also removed its Siri frequently asked question website. 9to5mac.com thinks the reasoning behind the removal of the FAQ page is "because Siri seems to no longer be in beta, perhaps Apple feels that the service now performs well enough to not need an additional page of explanations."
Apple taking Siri out of beta does not mean the improvements will stop. After all Apple releases a new iPhone almost every year when they come up with just one new feature. So it is likely that Siri will keep getting updates. As it stands now Siri is not a perfect tool. Many of the questions users ask still get directed to google or another external website. Business Insider says that the Google has launched a rival version of Siri for Droid users called Google Now. The app is available for download to the iPhone and according to BI "is much better at delivering the news and answers you want."
