Four different sources from within the United States Secret Service (USSS) have alleged that an agent sexually assaulted a Vice President Kamala Harris staff member.

The USSS has launched an investigation into the claims.

The incident took place last week while staffers and agents alike were in Green Bay preparing for a possible Harris rally in the state of Wisconsin which never came to fruition, reported Real Clear Politics.

The agent visited a restaurant for dinner and drinks with several Harris staffers following the end of the work day, after which they all returned to one staffer's hotel room. At the hotel room, in front of several witnesses, the agent tried to force himself on one female staffer and groped her in the process.

One Secret Service source alleges that the agent had been under the influence and was intoxicated to the point of passing out on the hallway floor after being kicked out of the female staffer's hotel room.

"The Secret Service holds its personnel to the highest standards," a USSS spokesperson told CNBC on Wednesday. "The employee has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation."

The Vice President's office also provided Real Clear Politics with a statement regarding the incident.

"The Office of the Vice President takes the safety of staff seriously," said a spokesperson for the office. "We have zero tolerance for sexual misconduct. Senior OVP officials were alerted by the USSS about an incident involving an agent and informed that USSS initiated an investigation. The Office of the Vice President will not be releasing further information."
