Former President Donald Trump, his family and supporters have recently become the subjects of social media ridicule due after the former President made controversial comments about immigrants in the U.S. during an interview on Monday.

In a conversation with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, the former President made reckless claims about immigrants and crime, stating that some migrants are more dangerous or likely to commit violent crimes than others due to having "bad genes".

"How about allowing people to come to an open border, 13,000 of which were murderers, many of them murdered far more than one person, and they're now happily living in the United States," said Trump. "You know now a murder, I believe this, it's in their genes. And we got a lot of bad genes in our country right now."

Social media users have been quick to respond, pointing out the hypocrisy and irony the former President's comments are riddled with, and sharing images of Trump's own family online stating that he himself is a carrier of "bad genes".

"Donald is the son of an immigrant and the grandson of an immigrant and married two immigrants. Donny knows all about bad genes, he expresses them constantly," wrote one user to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

"His mother was an immigrant. His paternal grandparents were immigrants. His 1st wife was an immigrant. His current wife is an immigrant. Most of his kids are the offspring of immigrants. Who has bad genes?" wrote another user.

Trump's late mother, Mary Anne Trump, emigrated to the U.S. from Scotland. Trump himself was born in 1946, just 4 years after his mother was naturalized as an American citizen. His paternal grandparents, Friedrich Trump and Elisabeth Christ, emigrated to the U.S. from Germany.

Furthermore, the majority of the former President's children are also the children of immigrants. Trump's first wife, Ivana, emigrated from Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic). His wife, former First Lady Melania Trump, emigrated from Slovenia.

These comments come just after Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, spun a web of falsehoods surrounding Haitian immigrants living in the city of Springfield, Ohio. The Republican presidential ticket has been adamant in perpetuating the idea that immigrants in Springfield are kidnapping, killing and eating the pets of residents of the city, despite Mayor Rob Rue and the city's police department stating that there is no evidence or reports of any such cases.
