A man in Massachussets was arrested for the alleged murder of his elderly mother. Alfredo Paratore, 49, pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Monday on charges of the murder of his 80-year-old mother Katherine Paratore, who was found dead inside her home on Friday.
According to NBC Boston, police in Lynn City responded to a call to the victim's home around 8pm. Reports said it was Alfredo who lodged a call to the police saying that he found his mother on the floor upon returning home. Oddly enough, authorities said the man acted nervous and could not remember the last time he spoke to his mother nor the last time he had seen her even though he had been living with her.
Police mentioned that it appeared the victim had suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. They said the body seemed to have been in that state for several days. Investigators also noticed that Alfredo had scratches on his cheek and ear as well as what seemed to be dried blood on his left hand.
Officers who arrived at the scene described what they found as gruesome. The victim had no shirt on and was found against a wall inside a doorway. The victim’s body had lacerations near the right collarbone and on the right hand and was covered in bruises on both arms, the neck and head. A set of dentures was also found on the floor next to her shoulder.
Upon further inspection of the home, investigators spotted what looked to be internal organs on the welcome mat inside the house. They also saw blood spatter on the walls, along with dried blood and bloody hand prints.
Alfredo allegedly told the cops that he had taken a dose of his opioid treatment medication suboxone about 15 minutes before authorities arrived. Officers gave him Narcan assuming that he may have overdosed. He was then taken to Salem Hospital.
For further assessment of Alfredo’s mental state, he will be sent to Bridgewater State Hospital for an evaluation. He was not present during his arraignment but his lawyer entered a not guilty plea on his charges. The suspect is held in custody without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 30.
The motive for the murder is still unclear as neighbors have refused to speak to the media.
