It appears there is more to the case of an Oklahoma inmate accused of killing a toddler in 2015. She collapsed three months ago while in the shower but it appears she was dealing with some other medical issues.

According to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office, the woman identified as Lesley Hendrix. When she collapsed, she was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. Per reports, Hendrix was suffering from leg swelling but never complained about pain, fatigue, chills or fever, KFOR reported.

Based on the autopsy done on her, Hendrix was suffering from a flesh-eating disease. Other than that, Hendrix also suffered from septic shock and respiratory failure. However, the exact cause of her death remains unknown.

Hendrix has spent the last five years in prison after being accused of first-degree murder for the death of a 23-month-old girl she was babysitting in 2015. She has yet to stand trial. She is the Canadian County jail's longest-held inmate, El Reno Tribune reported.

Hendrix alleged to authorities that she had put the baby to sleep but could no longer wake her up. When the medical examiner examined the child, it was found that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

The autopsy showed that the toddler died of a subdermal hematoma caused by the blunt force trauma. It was believed that the trauma was a result of the abuse done by Hendrix while she was looking after the child.

The child’s mother, Dawn Little Elk, stated in a preliminary hearing that she had dropped off her children at the house of Hendrix before receiving a text message from the sitter that there was an emergency. Hendrix did call 911 on that same morning as well.

The child died the next day but doctors believe that based on the symptoms, the abuse may have been done under Hendrix’s watch.
