A Kendallville couple is celebrating an unexpected windfall after finding their missing $1 million Powerball® ticket just five hours before it was set to expire.
The ticket, purchased for the June 29 drawing, was lost between the seats of their car for nearly six months. After waking early on Christmas morning, the couple searched their vehicle again and discovered the winning ticket wedged deep in the seats.
The couple, who requested anonymity, claimed their prize at the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment Office in Indianapolis on December 26, the final day to redeem the ticket.
"It was an emotional day for the both of us," they shared.
The couple credited Hoosier Lottery's awareness efforts, including news coverage and signage at a local gas station, for prompting their renewed search.
The $1 million ticket, sold at Kendallville Finish Line, matched all five white balls in the June 29 drawing: 26, 51, 54, 61 and 69, with a Powerball of 25.
The Hoosier Lottery advises winners to store tickets securely, seek financial advice and contact customer service for claim instructions.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot for December 28 stands at an estimated $145 million.
