In a rather bizarre incident of sorts, an Indian woman residing in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur Dehat district was given two dosages of the coronavirus vaccine, at a healthcare facility she recently checked into on Thursday. The blooper has been attributed to the lack of focus on the auxiliary nurse’s part, as reports suggest she was engrossed in a telephonic conversation while being on the job.
Kamlesh Devi, 48, complained of being administered two dosages of the India-approved vaccine when she went to get her first shot last week. The resident of Madauli, who’s recovering at her residence, has exhibited no serious adverse effects of the double dosage as yet, except for a mild swelling, The New Indian Express reported. Her family members are livid at the negligence on the nurse's part and have demanded a further probe into the matter. It is believed that the nurse wasn’t willing to own up to her mistake when Devi had questioned her about the second dose.
A complaint was lodged soon after, and District Magistrate JP Singh has asked for a three-member team to carry on the investigation to unravel what exactly led to the mishap at Madauli Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in the Akbarbarpur area. Singh has refused to disclose further details as the investigation is on.
Kanpur Dehat CMO Rajesh Katiyar addressed the issue and stated that the Covid-19 vaccination drive was being conducted at Marhauli primary health center as part of the country’s massive vaccination drive. A senior doctor has been requested to delve deep into the matter and submit a report, as cited on India TV.
The coronavirus outbreak continues to plague several countries of the world, with India being one of the worst affected. Over 12.6 million cases have been registered in the country so far with a recovery rate of 11.7 million. Despite there being a downward curve in terms of Covid-related fatalities, several parts of the country are likely to go into a lockdown and curfews if the gnawing uptick in the cases continues.
