It is now being alleged that the Chinese troop overwhelmed Indian soldiers by sheer numbers in the Indo-China skirmish, which led to the burial of over 20 slain Indian soldiers on June 15.
In what’s perceived as a revolt against India’s decision to cancel Kashmir’s special status, the event is pegged as one of the most violent clashes of all time in the past 45 years. The violent face-off spanning six hours, took place on the ridge of a mountain in Ladakh, a de-facto border that separates both the armies, in the northeast Kashmir.
The deceased soldiers belonged to 16th Bihar Regiment deployed in the Galwan region. Two soldiers, who were indirectly involved in the face-off, spoke about the unfortunate turn of events to a media outlet on the condition of anonymity. While gunshots weren’t fired, the death certificates of as many as five cases suggested deaths were caused by inflicting heinous injuries on the soldiers. The death certificates and documents also notified families about how three dead soldiers had sustained incisive injuries -- “arteries ruptured in the neck” -- along with two deep head injuries reportedly caused by “sharp or pointed objects.” There were visible marks left on the neck and the forehead, suggested the reports.
Indian government officials revealed that the conflict broke out when the commanding officer of the Bihar regiment led a small party to Patrol Point 14 in a bid to find out whether the Chinese stood to their promise of retreating from the disputed site and dismantle structures that were constructed there.
While the Indian defense ministry is yet to comment on the queries put forth by the media outlet, a China foreign ministry commented on the occurrence by deflecting blame and cited that provocation by the Indian side led to the deadly combat.
“When Chinese officers and soldiers went there to negotiate, they were suddenly and violently attacked by the Indian troops,” said the spokesperson to the media outlet. “The rights and wrongs of the incident are very clear. The responsibility absolutely does not lie with the Chinese,” he added.
Despite the comments, the Chinese ministry is yet to provide adequate proof that testifies their claims of Indian aggression. The Chinese ministry is yet to offer its stance.
