A former doctor in Illinois has pleaded guilty to secretly recording female employees by placing hidden cameras in hospital restrooms, with prosecutors seeking the maximum penalty.

Henry Chang, 30, was a neurosurgery resident at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria where he installed hidden cameras in employee restrooms, according to Peoria Jorunal Star.

The scheme was uncovered after one of the cameras fell from its hiding spot, leading a female employee to notify authorities. Police discovered that Chang had been recording employees for at least a month and had saved over 100 videos on his computer.

On August 9, 2023, Peoria police responded to the hospital after the hidden camera was found on the bathroom floor. Investigators uncovered multiple recordings of female employees using the restroom, as well as footage of Chang setting up the device.

Initially facing 56 counts of unlawful video recording, Chang agreed to a plea deal on Wednesday, pleading guilty to two counts while the remaining charges were dropped.

Prosecutors stated that dropping the additional charges would not have increased his potential prison sentence. Chang's sentencing is scheduled for May 28, 2024, with prosecutors seeking the maximum sentence of six years.

His temporary medical permit was suspended on November 29, 2023, following his dismissal from the University of Illinois residency program.
