The Mayor did not release the names of the victims or suspect.
A local radio station said the suspect attempted to run from the scene of the shootings where he then preceded to get into a high-speed chase with the police officers on location and shots were fired up until the suspect was taken into custody.
Manchester, Illinois is a small town 50 miles from the state capital of Springfield. Inquisitr.com also notes that the shooting took place in a public housing complex in the town and that it remains unknown why the suspect would commit such a terrible act.
"This is a nice little town and I have no problems with anybody," Mayor Drake said. "What took place, I cannot tell you."
The Illinois shooting comes only days after the Boston Marathon bombings where two suspects set off explosions near the finish line.
With the United States on a high safety alert following the Boston bombings, these shootings in Illinois will not sit well with anyone.
