An Illinois man who called himself "Benjamin Franklin" was arrested in connection to multiple reports of robberies on Facebook Marketplace.

The owner of the "Benjamin Franklin" account was eventually identified as 23-year-old Zyon J. Lay Taylor, whose alleged scam was all about the 'Benjamins.'

Police report Lay Taylor listed items for sale or showed intent to purchase or exchange goods on Facebook Marketplace, then during meetups, fled as soon as the cash or merchandise was in his possession.

According to the Maywood Police Department, numerous items involved in the robberies were recovered during the execution of a search warrant. On Sept. 5, Lay Taylor surrendered to Maywood Police.

Lay Taylor is charged with three felony counts of theft from persons over $500 but under $10,000.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Maywood Police ask any potential victims or persons with knowledge regarding associated robberies to contact Commander Diaz with the Maywood Police Department at (708) 450-4471.
