An Uzbek national has been arrested in Idaho on federal terrorism charges. Fazliddin Kurbanov, 30, appeared in court in Boise over allegations that he was interacting with a terrorist network in his home country of Uzbekistan.

Kurbanov was charged with one count of conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization as well as one count of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists. He is suspected of scheming to use weapons of mass destruction. The United States' attorney for the district of Idaho, Wendy Olson, declined to reveal whether Kurbanov had any targets in mind or whether the alleged terrorist activity he was conspiring to commit would have taken place in the U.S. or abroad.

In neighboring Utah, Kurbanov is also accused of distributing information about WMDs explosives, including IEDs. Improvised explosive devices made out of pressure cookers and buckshot-like fillings were allegedly used by Chechen brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev to cause mass injury and death at the Boston Marathon in April.

Kurbanov is currently being housed in the Ada County Jail in Idaho after the unsealed indictment alleged that he was conspiring to provide financial, technological and other support for the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, whose mission is reportedly to overthrow the government in Tashkent.

Olson said that Kurbanov's arrest removed any potential imminent terrorism threat.
