An Idaho teacher has been ordered to remove classroom signs reading "Everyone is welcome here" after school district officials deemed them potentially "controversial," sparking backlash from the community.

Sarah Inama, a world civilization teacher at Lewis and Clark Middle School in Meridian, Idaho, has displayed the signs in her classroom for four years without issue, according to Idaho Statesman.

However, in February 2025, administrators informed her that the signs violated district policy and Idaho's Dignity and Nondiscrimination in Public Education Act, arguing that their imagery could be perceived as political.

Additionally, House Bill 41, a pending state law, could soon prohibit displays deemed ideological, including those related to race, gender, or political affiliation.

Inama initially complied with the district's directive but later chose to rehang the signs, believing their message was neutral and inclusive rather than controversial. This led to further administrative intervention, with officials mandating their removal by the end of the school year.

Parents, students, and fellow educators have expressed solidarity through messages, flowers, and even T-shirts replicating the sign's designs.

Meanwhile, Inama remains uncertain about her job security, as district officials have not clarified potential consequences.
