December 9, 2012. Devastating news that the plane that carried Jenni Rivera and her team was missing struck "banda" music fans.
The Rivera family ignored all the media reports and locked themselves in, praying and wishing that "La Diva de la Banda" would still be alive. "It was such an unsettling feeling to hear that word 'missing' because you don't know how to feel, you don't... 'Do we sit here? Do we go? Do we go back home?'" Her daughter Chiquis expressed.
The days that followed were filled with anxiety, but hope was never lost. Until the Green Cross in Mexico found a plane that had crashed near Monterrey. It looked like it was the aircraft carrying Jenni and her team.
"It's absolute torture, because you're trying to convince yourself of the positive, knowing that it can be the worst," Juan Rivera, Jenni's brother, said.
Her family members were soon notified and went to the place of the accident, finding suitcases with the singer's clothes, and later identifying her body.
The tragedy was the center of last night's "I Love Jenni" episode, "Mariposa Part 2," which showed unseen footage of the singer performing at her last concert, and later backstage getting ready to go home, to then feature all of her family member's reactions to the news of her disappearance, and later, death.
Her last concert was full of heart-warming moments between her and her fans, funny comments and a last performance of Paloma Negra, that didn't leave a single dry eye. It felt like the artist knew this was her last time she was going to be on stage as she gave it all to please her fans.
Rivera's first impression after she finished her four-hour concert was: "Wow," as she looked beyond happy and accomplished of her performance to then break down in tears of joy. Later in her dressing room she discussed with her makeup artist how amazing the crowd was, and all the love she felt, saying, "It's too much," and "I'm so blessed, I'm so blessed."
Her daughter Jacqui opened up about her mom's career and it showed how Jenni was humbled to have an amazing success:
"I don't think my mom ever planned on 'oh, I'm gonna be a singer and I'm gonna make billions of CD's and I'm gonna have a lot of fans and stuff like...' No, it just kinda accidentally happened and I think when she stepped back and looked at everything she has accomplished, I think she was definitely surprised of herself and her capability of everything that she did."
And she did really touch many lives, as her fans remain true to her memory and honor it at any chance they get.
