A road rage incident in Orlando ended in tragedy when 47-year-old Fred William Turner Jr. was shot and killed while travelling on the I-4. The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m, Saturday afternoon. Turner Jr. was on the phone with the police when the incident occurred.
According to initial investigation, Fred William Turner Jr. is a victim of a brutal road rage attack. Turner desperately called 911 when he was harassed by another motorist armed with a semiautomatic weapon. Turner insisted that he has done nothing to provoke an attack.
A bizarre incident, family and friends familiar with victim Fred William Turner Jr. can hardly believe what had occurred. Fred Turner's ex-wife described him as a reserved, quiet man without a reason for anyone to hurt him.
"He was a nice guy. I don't see him having any enemies," said Turner's neighbor.
"He stayed to himself. He was a quiet guy. I just can't believe that someone would just openly, randomly shoot him on I-4. That's horrible."
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office launched a manhunt for the shooter. In fact, authorities even closed the eastbound I-4 for eight hours in order to seek evidence and clues. Eyewitnesses alerted authorities of a late model gray or silver Ford Taurus with tinted windows.
Eventually, police managed to arrest Jerome Edward Hayes on Monday. Hayes is charged his first degree murder and is currently held in the Hillsborough County Jail.
