A Queens woman reportedly attacked and bit off the tip of a healthcare worker’s finger inside a Brooklyn hospital on Monday, the New York Police Department said.
A hysterical Trina McGee, 41, allegedly punched and bit the victim, a 41-year-old behavioral health worker, and tackled the victim to the ground.
The horrifying incident happened inside Kings County Hospital Center in East Flatbush around Monday midnight, police confirmed Wednesday. Reports said the offender “hit the female victim and bit off the top of her ring finger.”
McGee was receiving medical treatment when she attacked the victim. McGee was arrested and charged with assault and menacing after the attacker left the victim bleeding and traumatized with serious injuries, the NYPD said.
The doctors were unable to reattach the piece of the digit, reported The New York Post. Hospital authorities have yet to comment on the gruesome incident.
Crimes of similar nature have seemingly risen in the past few months. Just two months ago, a drugged-up teenage girl in Brooklyn chomped a New York City Fire Department paramedic’s face as the health worker tried to put her on a stretcher.
The teen bit down hard and sank her teeth into the 28-year-old medic’s cheek. The bite ripped and brought out pieces of flesh from the poor medic’s face and left a deep wound on her cheek, reported Daily News.
In another similar but unrelated incident, a 48-year-old Asian man was allegedly punched multiple times and bitten on the hand by a shirtless attacker in Manhattan.
The attacker was reportedly heard yelling "Go back to China!" while mauling the Asian man. The incident happened at a sidewalk in Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan on Tuesday morning, reported WABC.
Violent crimes targeting medical professionals have seen a global surge recently, especially in East African regions.
A nurse from the Tutsi ethnic group was reportedly attacked in Burundi, by members of a group called Conseil National pour la Défense de la Démocratie (CNDD-FDD), allegedly for refusing to join their political party.
In another incident, a patient was killed and a health worker was injured when Ngumino-Twigwaneho coalition members attacked a hospital in Bijojo village and looted their medical equipment in Congo.
Another horrifying incident had two health workers being abducted at gunpoint by Fulani herdsmen while on their way to the Imeko General Hospital in Nigeria.
