A hungry girlfriend who was searching for food at her boyfriend's apartment reportedly found human remains inside his refrigerator. The incident happened in a house in Protea Glen, Soweto, South Africa on Saturday, Nov. 13.
The woman's boyfriend, the 26-year-old tenant, has been arrested for murder on Saturday, Nov. 13, after several bags of frozen body parts were retrieved from the refrigerator in his apartment in Protea Glen, Soweto, South Africa, SABC News reported.
The girl, believed to be a student at the University of Johannesburg, made the gruesome discovery after she was left alone by her boyfriend when he went to a shop to buy some grocery items. The girl, who was reportedly hungry, started looking around for something to eat. She then opened the refrigerator hoping to find food but instead found dismembered human remains stuffed inside the freezer.
Following the discovery, the woman immediately called for help and fled to a neighbor's apartment for comfort.
“This young lady had come to my gate, we let her in. She told us that she had seen body parts, speaking about a hand that she found in the refrigerator. The lady who found the body parts were traumatized, she was shaking, vomiting. When my husband came, he heard the story and he alerted the other neighbors via our community WhatsApp group,” Marumole said.
An off-duty police officer who was staying in Protea Glen responded to the incident and called for backup.
Meanwhile, neighbors gathered outside the suspect’s flat and waited for him to return home. A curious neighbor, Joel Botlhoko, opened the refrigerator and took a look inside a plastic bag, only to find a frozen human arm inside it.
After the accused reached home, the neighbors confronted him regarding the horrifying incident. The suspect reportedly tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself, but the authorities managed to intervene. He was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment and has since been discharged, News24 reported.
Law enforcement said that body parts will be sent to their forensic science laboratory in order to identify the victim. Meanwhile, the suspect is expected to appear at the Protea Magistrate’s Court early this week.
