“Hunger Games: Catching Fire” is a world apart from its predecessor -- or so it looks for warrior doll Katniss Everdeen, portrayed by Oscar darling Jennifer Lawrence.
In a newly released promotional photo for the upcoming movie, the 22-year-old is dressed up in a beautiful lace gown, covered in ornate detailing, and she carries a single white rose. The dazzling look is a far cry from the battle-hardened, tough chick fans fell in love with in the first installment of the apocalyptic franchise -- it appears that Katniss is finally enjoying the fruits of her success.
So is Jennifer Lawrence, who just celebrated a thrilling award season, in which she scored both best actress Oscar and Golden Globe for her supreme performance in indie film “Silver Linings Playbook.” In this dark comedy about two troubled people who find comfort in each other’s company, J. Law played Tiffany, an anxiety-riddled widower who dreams of winning a dance competition.
The Kentucky-born actress has been acting for several years, starting with guest roles in television shows, and then moved on the movies where she worked her way up the ladder to her break through role in “Winter’s Bone,” which earned her an Oscar nomination for the first time.
But it was the adaption of the successful book franchise “The Hunger Games” that projected Lawrence’s fame. Her embodiment of the main character was praised by both critics and fans, and helped the first movie become a smash.
Katniss is not the only old favorite to return in the images. Fans will be excited to see Woody Harrelson reprise his role as Katniss’ mentor Haymitch. Lenny Kravitz and Stanley Tucci both return as Cinna and Caesar Flickerman. Big name stars, like Philip Saymour Hoffman and Amanda Plummer, will join the cast in the upcoming film, which will be released in November 2013.
