Wondering how to stay fit during a lockdown? Get started by sticking to a balanced diet plan. Indeed, times are tough and there’s a lot of housework compounded by work targets to complete, while staying indoors. But, fitness and eating healthy are easier than imagined, during the lockdown. Here are a few fail-safe pointers that will make all the difference -- to the way you look and feel.
1) Suffering from a space crunch? Don’t really have the bandwidth to indulge in a detailed fitness plan? Worry not, for all you’ll need is a skipping rope. Skipping for a good 20-30 minutes is said to be one of the most effective ways to pump out those endorphins while quashing those calories. PS: It’s really fun to do, and you barely need any space, equipment to practice.
2) It’s often said that the digital age is the best time to be alive in the history of mankind. And truly so, because the relevance of the world wide web can never be overrated. More so during Quarantine—when gyms and fitness clubs are shut, the best thing to do is browse through fitness videos, subscribe to an online workout class, and get moving.
“I try and do some resistance work, such as sit-ups and back extensions, and am now doing online fitness videos with the boys so we all get an hour of exercise daily,” said Dr. Rachel Batterham, Professor of Obesity, Diabetes, and Endocrinology at University College London. “They’re both very good at press-ups. I’ve bought a skipping rope and am trying to do 20-30 minutes of skipping daily too,” Batterham added.
3) Exercise isn’t just for those who are desperately looking for ways to kick a few kilos. Engaging in regular workouts is recommended to everyone, irrespective of their health history or body type. A zesty workout will leave you feeling refreshed as exercise alters your hormone levels—minimizing the stress-inducing ones and releasing more endorphins, especially during challenging times like these.
Diet: Eating right is one of the best ways to improve your overall wellbeing. Avoid processed and canned foods for as long as you can, and stock up on fresh greens -- carrots, tomatoes, cabbage, celery, radishes and lean meats of course. Settle for gin and slimline tonic instead of the regular alcoholic beverage in order to avoid piling up on unwanted calories during the lockdown.
