Before Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón captivated the world with her role in 'Emilia Pérez'—a performance that earned her acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress—she had already made a mark in Mexico and its telenovela industry.

Her commanding performance in 'Emilia Pérez,' a film that stood out among high-profile productions in 2024 and promises to remain a cultural phenomenon in 2025, propelled her career to new heights and solidified her success.

Gascón always knew she wanted to act and pursued her dream relentlessly. She began her career in Spain before taking a leap of faith and moving to Mexico, determined to make her mark on international screens.

Arriving in Mexico with big dreams and the support of director Julián Pastor, Gascón secured roles in several telenovelas. But adjusting to a new style was no easy task.

She admitted to struggling initially, but gained confidence and control over time.

Gascón rose to stardom between 2009 and 2014, when she was still known as Juan Carlos Gascón Ruiz. Her debut in 'Corazón Salvaje' as Branko, a charismatic Romani woman, proved to be a turning point in her career.

She went on to appear in other productions, including 'Llena de Amor' in 2010, where she formed a love triangle with Ariadne Díaz and Valentino Lanús under producer Angelli Nesma Medina for Televisa.

In 2013 she starred in the hit film 'Nosotros Los Nobles' as Peter Pintado, a character who pretended to be Spanish but was actually from Cholula, Puebla. She shared the screen with Gonzalo Vega and Juan Pablo Gil in this comedy.

In 2014, Gascón took on a role in 'Hasta El Fin Del Mundo,' blending comedy with intense drama.

On that same year she joined the second season of Telemundo's hit series 'El Señor de los Cielos' as Iñaki Izarrieta, a ruthless Spanish associate of Aurelio Casillas.

'Emilia Pérez' won Best Picture – Musical/Comedy at the 82nd Golden Globes. Gascón, draped in a long orange dress, stated, "I chose these colors, the Buddhist colors, tonight because I have a message for you. The light always wins over darkness."

Gascón's career reflects the determination of someone who left her homeland to make history, overcoming obstacles to achieve international success.
