Prince Charles married two women throughout his lifetime. But Princess Diana and Camilla Parker Bowles left very different marks on the heir to the throne.
Throughout their marriage, the dad of two was painted as the bad guy. He was also partially blamed for the death of Princess Diana. But according to Lady Pamela Hicks, this wasn’t entirely the case.
During a previous interview, the royal insider said that Princess Diana wasn’t a good wife to Prince Charles either. Even though the late royal had charisma and was loved by the public, she was actually quite spiteful and unkind toward her ex-husband.
Hicks said that Prince Charles was the type of man who needed support and encouragement from his wife, and he didn’t get these things from the late royal. In the end, Prince Charles was destroyed by his marriage to Princess Diana.
But after he started dating Camilla, Prince Charles reportedly blossomed again. The once ghost-like future king appeared to be happier, more confident and more at peace with himself.
In the book “The Duchess: The Untold Story,” royal author Penny Junor said that Camilla will also be influential to the Prince of Wales once he becomes king. The Duchess of Cornwall is expected to influence her husband to become more confident in doing his job while taking emotions into consideration.
“Intellectually, Charles will be the best-prepared heir who has ever ascended the throne,” Junor said. “But emotionally, he is less robust. She [Camilla] will give him the strength and confidence to do the job,” she added.
And since Prince Charles is much happier to be married to Camilla than he was when he was with Princess Diana, the royal author said that there is a possibility for Queen Elizabeth’s eldest child to be a much-loved head of the monarchy. “Without her, there might have been a very different outcome,” Junor said.
Prince Charles and Camilla tied the knot in a civil ceremony in 2005. At that time, they have already been dating for over a decade. The royal couple had an affair while Prince Charles was still married to Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom.
