Family is very important to Prince William and Kate Middleton, and it’s fairly evident in the relationships they hold close. The difficulty in any married relationship is how to be close to one’s in-laws, and this remains the same with royals. Kate is evidently close to her royal in-laws; thus, it puts to question whether Prince William is close to Kate’s family as well.
Carole And Michael Middleton
The Duke of Cambridge may have hit a minor block with his mother-in-law at the beginning of his relationship with Kate. The 63-year-old mother of the duchess admitted in an interview that she had her trepidations with her daughter marrying a royal, fearing that she would “lose” her family.
This fear was proven baseless as her relationship with Kate has remained strong. “I have two lovely sons-in-law [Prince William and James Matthews] and I hope I'll have a lovely daughter-in-law,” she said.
Prince William even promised to his in-laws that he will never leave them out and he and Kate as a married couple will still be a part of their family. The prince has held true to his word, remaining close to Kate’s parents, even calling them “mum” and “dad.”
Pippa Middleton
Pippa is very close to her sister and by affinity would be close to Prince William as well. Rumors of William and Kate disapproving of Pippa’s husband, James Matthews, rose before her wedding. However, this was disproved rather quickly. The royal couple had no feud with Pippa and James, and they even attended Pippa’s wedding party.
The two couples are admittedly close friends, often approaching each other for advice on various topics. “We’re very close and we support each other and get each other’s opinions,” Pippa said.
James Middleton
James has a very good relationship with his older brother-in-law. He admitted that he’s very tight-knit with his sister and her husband, even adding that he wished to become the “cool uncle” to his niece and nephews.
“We’re a really close family,” said James. “And actually, we see each other and speak on the phone all the time, the odd Sunday lunch, or pop in for coffee or something like that.”
