Prince Charles once called the attention of Princess Diana’s former bodyguard, Ken Wharfe, for educating Prince William on the proper pronunciation of two words. The incident took place when the second in line to the throne was still very young.

While speaking with Daily Mail, Wharfe said that he decided to correct Prince William’s pronunciation of the words “out” and “house” after the royal started copying his dad’s accent. But by the looks of it, Prince William told Prince Charles that he was being corrected by his mom’s bodyguard.

“William came to me once and said, ‘Ken, Mummy wants to go ‘ite’ at 9:30 and we want to leave the ‘hise,’” he said. “I said, ‘OK William, but what’s this ‘ite’ business and ‘hise?’ We don’t go ‘ite’ we go ‘out’ and come back to the ‘house’ not the ‘hise.’ He said, ‘It’s what Papa says.’ I told him I wasn’t bothered what Papa said,” he added.

Two weeks later, Prince Charles confronted Wharfe about what he has been telling his son. The future king told the bodyguard that he has heard that he has been giving Prince William elocution lessons.

“I said, ‘I think you’re referring, Sir, to when he said to me he wanted to go ‘ite’ of the ‘hise’ and I was just suggesting the pronunciation is ‘out’ and ‘house.’ It wasn’t a lesson, merely an observation,” Wharfe defended himself.

Luckily for Princess Diana’s former bodyguard, Prince Charles seemed to be in a good mood at that time. Even though he obviously got upset that Prince William was being corrected by a royal staff, he managed to make light of the situation.

“He tugged at the cuffs of his shirt underneath his lemon cashmere sweater and I remember so well, grimaced at me and delivered this classic phrase, ‘Oh really?’” he said. That was the first and last time that Prince Charles and Wharfe talked about Prince William’s pronunciation.

Meanwhile, Wharfe’s observation of Prince William was not the only thing he has shared about the royal family. After Camilla Parker Bowles and Prince Charles’ phone conversation was leaked, Wharfe said that Princess Diana thought it was sick.
