Jennifer Aniston was reportedly clueless that then-husband Brad Pitt was having an affair with his “Mr & Mrs Smith” co-star Angelina Jolie. And when the truth finally came out, the “Friends” star was more than shocked that such a thing has been going on behind her back.
In fact, reports say that after Jennifer Aniston split with Pitt, she underwent a period of “grieving.” For Aniston, “it felt like “Brad had died.”
At that time, Aniston already signed up for the last season of her hit comedy series, a move that reportedly annoyed Pitt. While the couple’s relationship was already having problems at that time, Aniston’s discovery of Pitt’s affair with Jolie still rocked the actress to her core.
In addition, losing Pitt took some getting used to. In Aniston’s first interview after the split, she admitted going through a “lengthy period of mourning.”
“There are many stages of grief,” Aniston told Vanity Fair. “It’s sad, something coming to an end. It cracks you open, in a way — cracks you open to feeling. When you try to avoid the pain, it creates greater pain.”
The actress also realized that part of the problem is that her split with Pitt was highly publicized, which made it harder for her to deal with the situation. “I’m a human being, having a human experience in front of the world,” Aniston said. “I wish it weren’t in front of the world. I try really hard to rise above it.”
The “Friends” alumna revealed that there’s one belief that somehow helped her through the difficult ordeal, the belief that while it’s definitely a painful process, parting with Pitt must have happened for a reason. “I have to think there’s some reason I have called this into my life,” she explained. “I have to believe that — otherwise it’s just cruel.”
Meanwhile, Pitt went on to marry Jolie. However, their marriage wasn’t meant to last either, and the couple decided to divorce. Now that both Aniston and Pitt are single once more, rumors surfaced that they might be rekindling their romance when Pitt was spotted attending Aniston’s birthday party in February. However, both parties say they’re just friends for now.
