Fans of both stars can be forgiven if they asked, “Were Cameron Diaz and Alex Rodriguez a thing?” It was so low-key that only a few noticed what was going on. And by the time it was made public, it was already over a few months later.
The fact that Rodriguez and Diaz were able to keep their relationship low-key for that long was a surprise to most fans. Alex is known for his high-profile relationships, which includes an alleged affair with Madonna. On the other hand, Diaz has her own list of equally high-profile ex-lovers as well.
Yet they were able to keep it under the radar almost all the way to their split. Their romance was only confirmed a month before they parted ways in June of 2011.
But the best part is their cover was blown just because of a box of popcorn. In February 2011, the actress was photographed feeding popcorn to the New York Yankee player during a Super Bowl match.
It was something that Cameron had to explain for months after the incident. “We were watching the game, and I was eating, and I was getting down to, like, the last couple pieces of popcorn,” the actress explained to David Letterman on “The Late Show.” “And all of a sudden, I see a hand coming in. And I’m like, anybody who knows me does not put their hand in my food, especially when it’s close to my mouth.”
Apparently, the camera just got super lucky at that time because it was the only popcorn she fed to her boyfriend. “And I said, ‘What are you it’s mine!’ And then I went, ‘You know what? I love you too much. I’m going to give it to you. You deserve it,’” she revealed. “And it was the only piece of popcorn that I even put near his face, and they happened to have the camera on right when I did it.”
It just took ten minutes before friends informed them that the photo went viral online. “We started laughing so hard,” Diaz continued. “Like, ‘Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?’”
While their romance did not really last long, the good thing about the pair is that they managed to remain friends even after their split. Rodriguez even called Diaz as “one of the greatest human beings I’ve ever met, and just an amazing light.”
