House Republicans continue congressional blitz with new hearing on 'catastrophic border record'

House Republicans are continuing with their congressional blitz, with Homeland Security Committee Chair Mark Green now announcing a new hearing on what he has described as the "Biden-Harris administration's catastrophic border record."

The hearing, set for September 18, will seek to examine "how the crisis has undermined the safety and security of communities across our country, and how their unlawful, open-borders, and anti-enforcement policies impact DHS law enforcement."

Ever since Kamala Harris rose to the top of the ticket, Republicans — led by former President Donald Trump— have also taken the opportunity to dub the Vice President as the "border czar" due to her prior involvement in dealing with the "root causes" of immigration: economic malaise and a lack of opportunities in Central American countries from which a large portion of those seeking to reach the U.S. depart from.

In July, House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik introduced a resolution to condemn her role in immigration enforcement. Stefanik, who is also calling Harris the "Border Czar," said in a statement that her "failed leadership led to the most catastrophic open border crisis in history."

Weeks later, House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer compelled U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to provide documents related to communications with Harris. The request, according to Comer, sought to "understand Vice President Harris' role in the worst border crisis in American history."

CBP was required to share any and all communications and documents with Harris' executive office in relation to the southwest border. "It is unclear what actions, if any, Vice President Harris has taken to fix the border crisis. Rather, she has claimed that '[w]e have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation.' The Committee seeks to understand whether Vice President Harris has 'done anything' to address the worst border crisis in American history," Comer said in mid-August when spearheading the request.

Harris, however has gone on the offense, turning the conversation to Trump and blaming him for killing a bipartisan deal earlier this year that would have increased funding for the border and potentially helped crossings decrease.

This new hearing claims that the administration "ended decades of bipartisan enforcement on America's longstanding immigration laws," forcing Border Patrol agents to "implement a policy of mass catch-and-release, while ICE's interior enforcement capabilities were gutted—all in pursuit of Biden and Harris' dream of open borders."

"As a result of these disastrous policies, millions of inadmissible aliens have been released into the interior, overwhelming our communities," the document adds, listing a series of what it claims to be relevant data points.

"Next week's hearing will confront the American people with the inescapable truth: our once secure border has been thrown wide open by Biden and Harris. We will hear from former law enforcement officials forced to implement these reckless policies, and from those who were forced to confront the worst nightmare possible. I urge the media and the public to lend their ears to this upcoming testimony. This is the defining issue of our time," the document ends. It hasn't disclosed the witnesses that will take part in the hearing.
