After more than a year, "House of Cards" finally returns to Netflix for its third season on Friday, Feb. 27. Similar to last year, the highly anticipated series will be released at 12:01 midnight in the Pacific, or 3:01 a.m. Eastern. For the hardcore bingewatchers of the world, Friday would be a great time to call in sick and get yourself sucked into Francis Underwood's world of filthy politics.
When we left Frank Underwood at the end of the second season, the once Democratic Majority Whip was ruthlessly unstoppable in his rise to become the President of the United States. "One heartbeat away from the presidency and not a vote cast in my name. Democracy is so overrated."
Despite Frank Underwood's meteoric rise to power, one cannot deny that his methods of reaching the top were reckless and terrifying. Based on the official "House of Cards" Season 3 trailers to date, it looks like we may be about to witness a catastrophic downfall.
One of the most shocking moments in "House of Cards" Season 2 was the murder of Zoe Barnes. However, the dead reporter leaves behind a vindictive posse, including editor-boyfriend Lucas and colleague Janine, who are especially convinced that Frank Underwood had a hand in her death. Lucas reached out to hacker extraordinaire Gavin Orsay to help him find evidence to bring Zoe justice and break Underwood down.
Frank Underwood's second skeleton in the closet is Rachel, who apparently managed to kill Doug in the final episode of Season 2. We don't know what is next for Rachel, but she has every motivation to remove Underwood from her life. That said, the sentiment goes both ways. We expect Underwood to be especially eager to get Rachel out of the picture. Permanently.
In an interview with E! News, Frank Underwood actor Kevin Spacey revealed that writer-producer Beau Willimon and producer David Fincher have a "desire to see just how dark that well is and how deep does it go. We have miles to go before we sleep."
