Florida Parents Accuse Hospital Staff of Breaking Baby's Neck, Trying to Cover Up Injury That Ultimately Killed Her: 'We Only Held Her Four Times'

The Florida family of a premature baby, who died after suffering a broken neck in the hospital is suing the facility, alleging negligence and a cover-up surrounding the tragic event.

Jahxy "Jazzy" Peets was born early at just 24 weeks in June 2022, weighing just over one pound. Initially, without signs of birth-related trauma, her condition deteriorated two weeks later when an MRI revealed a severe spinal injury.

The family claims it was caused by excessive force while in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Winnie Palmer Hospital in Orlando, Florida.

The lawsuit filed by Jazzy's parents accuses hospital staff of mishandling their daughter, resulting in a broken neck, which left her paralyzed and unable to breathe independently, Fox 35 Orlando reported.

Despite the severity of the fracture, the family is adamant that the hospital failed to report it and only admitted liability much later.

"Somebody in the NICU broke her neck, and they didn't tell anybody," the family's lawyer, Nicole Kruegel, said.

The family is seeking at least $50,000 in damages and a jury trial. While the hospital has publicly offered condolences, they emphasized the complexities of caring for premature infants.

"I never got a chance to hear my daughter cry. She never had a chance to meet her siblings or her family. We never celebrated a single milestone, we only held her four times," Jazzy's mother, Gianna Lopera, told the outlet.
