A 20-year-old sex worker was gang-raped by at least 12 people in a moving car, a video of which surfaced and spread over social media. The incident happened in October of last year in the Mansarovar police station area with three people already under police custody.
There were at least 10 people linked to the gang-rape of the sex worker. Three people have already been arrested concerning the sexual assault case. The last arrest came on Monday from Indore in Madhya Pradesh.
The woman, whose identity remains unknown, is reportedly from Uttar Pradesh. She was identified by police in the viral video after which authorities took her statement. This helped the police track down the suspects, including one named Abishek Thakur who was reportedly from Indore.
Commissioner of Police, Ajay Pal Lamba, also said in the video that they got from their sources on Mar. 6 that the incident may have happened in Jaipur.
According to another report, the woman allegedly met one of the attackers on social media. Both ended up becoming friends and the man called her to come to Jaipur. The victim stayed at a hotel in Mansarovar and both met up on Ajmer Road.
When the woman got in the car, other men were with them. Others from three different cars took turns raping her and a video of the incident was captured. When they were done, the 20-year-old was threatened by the assailants as can be seen on the video.
Police are now looking into the case of the gang who may have had other prior victims before the 20-year-old sex worker. A manhunt for other suspects remains underway.
