A man in Florida has been arrested on Friday, Aug. 6, for allegedly planting hidden cameras in the bathrooms of his martial arts academy to spy on his female students.
Robert Franco, a 64-year-old man from Florida, has been nabbed by Pembroke Police on Friday after one of his students found and recovered several hidden cameras from the bathroom of his establishment, according to Local10.
On July 29, a 17-year-old female student reportedly found two hidden cameras inside of two picture frames standing on a shelf in the bathroom of Franco’s taekwondo academy.
When she confronted Franco about her discovery, he allegedly destroyed the frames and cameras, possibly to hide the evidence. However, the student took pictures of the camera before turning them over.
The student then informed her dad, who shortly called 911 to report the incident, CBS Miami said.
“The cameras were certainly positioned in such a fashion that not only was the level of trust violated, but so too was their level of privacy,” Adam Feiner of the Pembroke Pines Police Department said.
“[The] physical evidence is described as CCTV camera footage and general surveillance footage that the business had in place, that damaged equipment is now in the possession of the Pembroke Pines Police Department for additional forensic extracting,” Feiner continued.
The footage that Franco got from the camera victimized both children and adults, with police warning that anyone who used the toilet of the establishment could have been caught on camera.
“Anyone who may have been to that business whether you are a participant or whether you were a visitor, whether you’re a child or an adult, if you just used their dressing room or used the restroom, the Pembroke Pines Police Department wants you to come forward,” authorities said in a statement.
Franco faces charges of video tampering, as well as tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
