The new Mac Pro pushed the envelope for high-end laptops with its top-of-the-line specs and features. But the price tag of its most powerful variant might shock even some of the brand’s well-heeled fans as it’s now dubbed as the most expensive Mac Apple has produced.
Apple’s newest Mac Pro will finally arrive by the end of this month with a price tag of $5,999 for its base model, according to TNW. However, the price could quickly add up for buyers who want to juice up and customize some of their laptop’s specs. “Expect that price to rise dramatically as you add fancier components,” the publication warned.
For $5,999, the entry-level Mac Pro already has some serious computing power that would suit most people’s needs. It comes with 32GB of Ram, a 256GB SSD, Radeon Pro 580X, and an octa-core Intel Xeon CPU, according to The Verge.
But for picky users who are unsatisfied with the base model’s specs, there’s plenty of room for improvement. For instance, the processor can be changed to a 28-Core, 2.5GHz Intel Xeon W with 56 threads as well as a Turbo Boost up to 4.4GHz. However, buyers must be ready to shell out another $7,000 for this customization.
One can also opt for a more powerful 1.5TB of 2933MHz RAM with 12 128GB user-replaceable slots. However, this enhancement does not come cheap as it means another $25,000 add-on to its price.
For those who want more storage, it can be customized to 4TB of SSD storage, which is composed of two 2TB SSDs. However, this option comes with another $1,400 add-on to its price tag. For those who want more, there is an 8TB option that’s still in the works.
For buyers who want to ramp up their device’s graphics power, there’s an option for two AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo graphics card modules. Each module has two GPUs, which means there’s a total of four GPUs with 32GB of dedicated RAM each. This option will add another $10,800 to the device’s cost.
One can also get an afterburner accelerator card for $2,000, wheels for $400, as well as a Magic trackpad for $50. Thankfully, the Magic Keyboard and the Magic mouse come for free.
For those who plan to get all those customizations, the price tag becomes a hefty $52,599. For reference, the iMac Pro, which was the previous holder of the “most expensive Mac” title, was only offered for $14,299.
The price of the customized Mac Pro might mean that the device is beyond the budget for most buyers. But for those who have money to spare and need the high-end specs of this monster, they’ll definitely get what they pay for.
