The headless body of a woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase along the Bhuigaon beach in Vasai West. Police recovered the decapitated corpse on Monday afternoon but has not yet gathered enough evidence to identify the body.
Authorities reported that the suitcase was found in a water channel of the Bhuigaon creek in Vasai West, and immediately sent it to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for post mortem examination.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Circle-2 Sanjay Kumar Patil said a murder case will be filed as well destruction of murder evidence. An FIR has been registered against the unknown perpetrators of the crime under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to Senior Police Inspector Kalyanrao Karpe, upon receiving information about the suitcase, they quickly responded to the scene. They said the body was assessed to be of a woman in her early 30's. There were no identifying marks on the headless body nor were there any items found on the woman nor other belongings stuffed inside the suitcase, Mid-day reported.
A police source said the victim was fully clothed and was already in a state of bloat.
An investigation has been launched as detectives continue their search for filed complaints of missing persons registered in police stations around Mumbai, Palghar district as well as in Thane and Navi Mumbai to help establish the woman’s identity.
Vasai Police said the corpse appeared to have been in the water for at least 3 days and suspect it was brought in via the stream of water coming in through the creek.
Based on recent police reports, this is the fifth time in the past few days that a dead body was found from the Bhuigaon beach of Vasai. The rainy season brought with it not only rain but washed in dead bodies believed to have come from Thane and Navi Mumbai.
In a separate incident, police have arrested two men allegedly involved in the death of a 22-year-old man whose dead body was found dumped in Padgha on July 7. The victim, identified as Dileepkumar Ramchandra Pal, a resident of Ulhasnagar appeared to have had his throat slit.
Senior inspector Suresh Manore of Thane rural police said the victim’s family filed a missing person’s complaint at which they were able to link Vijay Prajapati, 24, from Ulhasnagar, and 46-year-old Ankit Parmar of Dombivli as suspects to the crime. Reports about the case revealed that the victim was in love with Prajapati’s sister and had been carrying on an affair. The girl’s family was said to be against their relationship.
