Hayden Panettiere knows how tough it can be to grow up as a child star in the corrupting world of Hollywood. Fellow child stars like Amanda Bynes, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears have all made the rounds posing for mug shots, spending nights in jail and even heading to rehab. However, Hayden Panettiere has been able to grow from child star to adult star under the Hollywood spotlight without suffering the same fate as her fellow peers who grew up in "the generation of the wild child."

Panettiere is now 23, starring in "Nashville," and has said the journey to stay grounded while growing up in Hollywood wasn't easy. She discussed child stardom on the UK.'s "BBC Breakfast," and revealed that she could have ended up a lot like Lohan and Bynes if it wasn't for her friends and family.

She also discussed that she is no different than any other young star in the business, with the ability to access drugs and alcohol, which are dangerous and too inviting at such a young age.

"I'm no different to anyone else and those same doors were opened to me and they are very easy to walk through," Panettiere admitted, continuing, "Drugs, alcohol, being in inappropriate places where you shouldn't be at a certain age -- it's a very tough position to be in, but I had great people to pull me back from it."

The star who has found herself in headlines because of her career and not for her personal life, also stated that even though she has stayed out of trouble, she feels "guilty by association" because she is a part of the young Hollywood generation.

"Being a young female growing up in this industry is tough. And I grew up in the generation of the wild child -- I was guilty by association. So everyone sits there and waits for you to fall of your horse," she explained.

The actress, who is currently dating 37-year-old professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko, added that for one to stay grounded and humble it is all about support. Panettiere seems truly grateful for the positive support she has in her life, including friends and family that continually provide her with needed reality checks.

"But as long as you have people who are willing to tell you the truth and are not afraid to tell you the truth, and who are there to yank you back when you need it and give you a reality check -- it makes a world of difference."
