Turns out Argentinian President Cristina Fernández Kirchner is keen on adopting godchildren, just as she did with the baby of a Lesbian couple earlier this year. This time Kirchner adopted Jewish young man Lair Tawil to save him from an old powerful legend. Tawil is the youngest of seven brothers, which is frightfully unlucky according to Argentinians. Being the seventh son in a family before there are any daughters, dictates this child’s fates is to become a werewolf. The belief was thought to be so powerful some families abandoned or even killed their unfortunate children bringing the government to institute adoption in order to protect them.
During the 1920s the Argentinian government passed a law that gave these children a gold medal and a scholarship until they turned 21; except this only applied to Catholic children. In 2009 the law was updated and now “guarantees the adoption from the Nation’s Presidency at the moment of birth of the seventh child of siblings of the same sex.” Following this law, Cristina Kirchner adopted Lair Tawil, making him the first Jewish child to be adopted as the president’s godson, which happened during a moving ceremony last Tuesday, according to a story from the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
Kirchner took on to her Twitter to tell followers how magical the ceremony had been and spoke about how lovely the family is: “It is a beautiful family. His father is a Rabbi; seven sons, of course and their mother is so charming. They brought me Hanukkah, they are fascinating.”
